Resume
Gianluca Verrengia was born in 1973, his discovery of the six strings is relatively late, at the age of 16.
At 22 he graduated at "O. Respigi" Conservatory and he still remains one of the youngest Italian pupil ever graduated in classical guitar.
Since the beginning he focused both on modern and jazz-rock study.
He's been member of many bands (mostly pop and disco-funk) and played together in the most important disco clubs in Italy.
In 1996, at the age of 23 he published his first instrumental demo, chosen as "demo of the month" by the magazine "Metal Shock".
In 1993 he became music transcriber for the most important italian guitar magazine "Chitarre", in this role he made more than 50 transcriptions of many important jazz and rock guitar solos.
In 1997 by chance ... maybe not a chance, he became sound-track's composer for a video-game "Nightlong Union of Conspiracy" produced by Trecision-Microprose. This game became a best seller (over 400000 copies), and after this, Gianluca has been chosen for other works in this field, he released many titles for Italian and international productions, some of those won other awards (to mention one, "The Watchmaker" best TGM adventure 2002).
This experience brought to light the other great and inseparable attitude of this artist: composition.
He grew and improved in composition techniques through a rigorous study of ancient vocal and instrumental forms, until the newest ones, he wrote music for spots, documentaries and shorts , theatre plays , he also won awards as best composition in two international festivals: "Sedici Corto" Forlì, Italy and "San Paulo", Brazil, that one for his collaboration with Brazilian filmmaker Roberto Jabor.
Meanwhile as guitarist he collected many other live and discographic collaborations: Manuela Villa (Italian and international tour), Riccardo Res( Italian and international tour), Federico Salvatore (studio and tour), Tiziano Ferro (live), Articolo 31 ("Senza Filtro" soundtrack), Tormento (from Sottotono), Francesco Nuti, Gazebo, Antonello Rondi, he also performed at “ Anna Magnani prize” in 1999 (he played for M° Riccardo Muti).
His great and various experiences mixed with the desire to transmit his passion for music found a natural path in teaching method, from 1998 to 2004 he's been teacher in the "once" historic academy "Università della Musica" in Rome and since 2004 in the new multifunctional structure in Rome: "Fonderia delle Arti".
In the same time he published some editorial works: three books of various transcriptions, two as author about didactic method for guitar ("La chitarra funk, dal blues al metal" ed. Carish) and one as coauthor ("Joe Satriani", Verrengia - Mingardi).
In 2006 he founded "The Verreng Project" with Paolo Iurich, Daniele Iacono e Francesco Licciardi, he wrote and produced the whole music material, which is rich in many stylistic differences going from latin-jazz to funk-rock, with a particular improvisational tendency.
Since the beginning the band started playing in many clubs and festival, until the necessary break to record "Travels in a six string world"...the rest is today's history.
